IPL 2014 Sehwag Century KXIP Will Meat KKR,Beat CSK By 24 Runs

IPL 2014 Sehwag 58-ball 122 from earlier in the day looks like an everyday sort of innings. Suresh Raina seemed to be batting in a trance that was slowing down time, and slowing down cricket-ball action film.Chennai Super Kings were 100 for 2 after six over’s. It was the highest Power play score in Twenty20 cricket. Suresh Raina was brilliant on 87 off 25 balls.

With Chennai Super Kings' bowlers feeding him a juicy, back-of-a-length diet interspersed with full-tosses (they bowled 17 in all), Sehwag raced along at a strike rate of over 200, outshining all of his teammates in the process. Manan Vohra only scored 34 out of an opening stand of 110, Glenn Maxwell 13 out of a second-wicket stand of 38 and David Miller 31 out of a third-wicket partnership of 63.

When du Plessis took a difficult diving effort at extra cover to send back Sehwag Kings XI were 211 for 3 with 11 balls to go. It was the third time in three matches this season that they had crossed 200 against Super Kings. For the third time, their batting firepower set them up for a comfortable victory. For six unreal over’s, though, their total looked glaringly inadequate.

The direct hit caught Raina well short Run-out could end Suresh Raina innings from George Bailey. Having brought on Karanveer Singh, the leg spinner, and having brought the field in to deny Brendon McCullum the easy single, Bailey himself was called on to capitalize on the batsman's over-eagerness to bring Raina back on strike. Bailey sprinted hard to his left, picked up the ball, transferred it to his throwing hand, and released a hard, flat throw, all this on the turn.

The direct hit caught Raina well short. The throw broke the wicket, and broke the spell that Raina had cast over the game. Having scored 100 in the first six overs, Super Kings could only manage 102 off the last 14, and even a customary last-ball six from MS Dhoni.

He had reached his fifty in 16 balls, and become the second-quickest to the mark in the IPL, That happened in the sixth over, in which the unfortunate Parvinder Awana - went for 33, in a sequence that read 6, 6, 4, 4, 4 (no ball), 4, 4.

They also made a couple of tactical decisions that were, in retrospection, questionable: Ravindra Jadeja and David Hussey walked in ahead of Dhoni, who finally came in with 87 required from 47 balls, with too little firepower left in the dugout. The task proved well beyond an out-of-sorts Dhoni in the end.

The evening had been lit up by Sehwag second IPL century. Coming towards the close of a season in which he has steadily gathered form, the Sehwag who burst upon the Wankhede came extremely close to resembling the Sehwag of his peak years, hardhearted on the smallest amount of width, sneering against the spinners, and equally capable of stinging power and cheeky placement.

IPL 2014 Eliminator Round Chennai Beat Mumbai

2014 IPL 7th Season Chennai Super Kings to turn it on when they have to Faced with elimination in the, well, ‘Eliminator’, MS Dhoni’s team cruise past caring champions Mumbai Indians without so much as a rivulet of sweat stain their yellow jerseys.

After restricting Mumbai Indians to a below-par 173 at Brabourne Stadium. Chennai super kings Suresh Raina, named captain of India for the ODI tour of Bangladesh celebrated the new role by hitting yet another IPL fifty, a 33-ball 54. Dhoni’s choice to field did not seem to be a wise one after Mumbai Indians openers Michael Hussey and Lendl Simmons had put on 54 in the Power play. Mumbai’s total (173).

Chennai super kings FAF du Plessis (35) and Dwayne Smith (24) made the most of their chances to lay a foundation and took Chennai Super Kings to 60 without loss in 6 overs. He scratched around for 5 off ten balls, but when medium pace was reintroduced in the form of Bumrah, Hussey cut with authority for his first boundary. A spate of sixes in Ojha's last over followed and Hussey over with a 29-ball 40, having featured in a game-changing partnership of 89 in 9.1 overs with Suresh Raina. The end came when Raina, fittingly, flicked the 4th ball of the 18th over to the fence for the winning runs.

Mumbai Indians were 143/2 in the 17th over with Simmons (67) having hit top-gear soon after reaching a half-century, but gathered just 30 from the remaining 20 balls amid a torrent of wickets. Their chain of heavy hitters - Corey Anderson, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu and Aditya Tare - was all out forcing the pace.

But none of them wasted time as they contribute a total of 56 in 38 balls. The final push however never arrived and the innings rode almost entirely on the impetus of the 76-run opening stand between Michael Hussey and Simmons.

IPL 2014 Kolkata goes to final beat KXIP Uthappa record

IPL 2014 in India Robin Uthappa prolonged a stellar season and took the record for the highest runs scored by an Indian batsman in an all IPL season. Gambhir, though scratchy with the bat, had helmed an impressive turnaround by Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings Xi Punjab. Knight Riders eased into the IPL final.

Kings XI Punjab would not have been worried by a target of 164, but the advent of a non-stop drizzle in the third over meant they had to undertake one of the wilier bowling attacks with the scene of the match being shortened at any given moment.

The fast Bowler Umesh Yadav was not among those bound for England in July. His chosen way to vent was an opening spell of 2 for 12 in 3 over’s.

An Bangladesh Player Shakib Al Hasan and Piyush Chawla grabbed a wicket, while conceding only 11 runs in 3 over’s, as Kings XI Punjab meander to 97 for 6 in after 16 over’s. George Bailey attempted a counterattack, but Sunil Narine kept the last but one over to 4 runs to all but seal the result.

Akshar Patel snared the in-form Robin Uthappa and a stressed Manish Pandey in the same over. Karanveer Singh furthered his stocks with 3 wickets. However, in between their strikes Knight Riders had benefited from important cameos to secure a formidable total. His exit however seemed to drain Knight Riders' momentum until Yusuf Pathan and Shakib Al Hasan contributed 41 off 33 balls in the push towards the death over’s.

IPL-2014 7th Season first century Lendl Simmons Mumbai Beat KXIP

IPL-2014 7th Season Lendl Simmons first century for this season walked in with a strike-rate of 115. It would have been adequate considering Mumbai Indians' target was a relatively unchallenging 157. Mumbai's chances at a playoff spot not only depended on wins in every match they play. Lifting Mumbai to as high as 5th in the table.

Mumbai wavered from their course as the need to gain points on run-rate took a backseat to Simmons' landmark. Once the necessary single was taken calmly through square leg, Pollard immediately slammed the final ball of the 18th over into the crowd beyond long-on.

Simmons drew impressive power from swift hands and a steady base. The cut was a frequent source of boundaries as he accounted for 55 of the opening partnership's 68.

The target seemed set to be far steeper in the wake of Virender Sehwag employing his see-ball-hit-ball-forget-about-feet method with telling effect. He had taken Kings XI to 23 after 2 overs, but a freak run-out gone Sehwag ruing another start not capitalized on.

There were cracks on the Mohali pitch, but initial waywardness from Shreyas Gopal and Pragyan Ojha cost 51 in four overs. With their most potent weapon, Glenn Maxwell, still in the shed, Kings XI was primed for another assault.

But as had happened in the previous encounter between the two sides, the middle order was stymied and then sent back. Krishmar Santokie broke the 64-run stand for the 2nd wicket as Marsh holed out. Gopal's leg spin was persisted with and the gamble proved dividends as Vohra and Glenn Maxwell were pried out.

A slow pitch and a sudden dearth of big-hitters pushed Kings XI into a prolonged state of caution. Noticeable speeding up took as late as the 18th over and George Bailey strove towards a score that might offer some fairness to their start. The eventual 156 did not, nor was it good enough.

IPL 2014 Kolkata Knight Riders won by 8-wicket Against Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2014 Kolkata Knight Riders won by 8-wicket Chennai Super Kings with 2 overs to spare.

Robin Uthappa made his 4th half-century of the 7th season IPL-2014. The win took Kolkata Knight Riders level on Rajasthan Royals with 14 points from 12 games, Uthappa, who was put down twice, and Gautam Gambhir put on 64 runs for the opening partnership in 7 overs, Shakib Al Hasan belt an winning 46 off 21 to hasten the end.

In his keenness to drive, Robin Uthappa offered 2 chances to slip early on, and Super Kings reprieved him each time. First, R Ashwin dropped him on 6 runs off Hilfenhaus in the first over. MS Dhoni immediately replaced Ashwin with Suresh Raina in that position. In the third over, Raina let a harder, diving chance off Mohit Sharma go down, with Uthappa on 24.

Suresh Raina took 9 deliveries to get off the mark in a slow 55-run partnership with Brendon McCullum but accelerated later to make 65 off 52. Raina opened up against Piyush Chawla, hitting him for 3 sixes but his attempt to clear long-on in the 18th over failed. Suresh Raina effort enabled Chennai Super Kings to go past 150, but it was quite deficient against Robin Uthappa and Shakib Al Hasan.

2014 IPL 7th Season Kings XI Punjab became the 1st team in the playoffs

2014 IPL 7th Season Kings XI Punjab became the 1st team to confirm their seat in the playoffs with a 4-wicket win over bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils.

Kings XI Punjab also suffered a few hiccups after a classically blistering start and despite experimenting with their batting order, got home in the last over with 2 balls to spare. Akshar Patel, the unlikely hero with the bat for Kings XI, was well set on 41 off 34 balls when Rishi Dhawan joined him.
Kings XI Punjab openers, Virender Sehwag and Manan Vohra excellent 67 off 6.2 overs with Vohra the more dominant partner. It was another of those days in which Glenn Maxwell and David Miller failed. After being put in, Kevin Pietersen and D.Karthik were commanding in their stand of 71 for the 2nd wicket.
Dinesh Karthik was not afraid to play bold shots off the seamers, such as his sweep off Sandeep Sharma that went flat over square leg. Kevin Pietersen took 18 off an over from Beuran Hendricks and by the end of ten overs Delhi Daredevils were at a comfortable 84 for 1.

Their best finishers, JP Duminy and Kedar Jadhav failed and the blame fell on Dinesh Karthik for late acceleration. Dinesh Karthik departed for 69 caught at deep square leg; his was the 4th wicket to go down in the space of nine balls.

IPL 2014 seventh season Kolkata Knight Lasts beat Sunrisers Hyderabad

IPL 2014 seventh season Kolkata Knight Riders held their spirit on Sunday night to bring Sunrisers Hyderabad to the brink of elimination from 2014 IPL-7th Season.
After restricting Hyderabad to an under-inspiring 142/8 on a shimmering batting track at Uppal, Knight Riders maintained their focus against a world-class bowling line up to wrap up the chase with 2 balls to spare.
While Robin Uthappa excellent 40 runs and Manish Pandey somewhat disengaged 35 runs provided a solid platform to a moderate pursuit, it was Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeshate 42-run stand for the 4th wicket that sealed the deal for a 7-wicket win.
Pathan struck an impressive 28-ball 39 and ten Doeschate a timely 15-ball 25 as Kolkata boosted their chances of making the cut for the final four. Sunrisers now need to win their three remaining matches to have any hope of qualifying. Men of the match Umesh Yadav.

IPL 2014 Seventh Season Rajasthan Royals Beat Delhi Daredevils

IPL 2014 Seventh Season Rajasthan Royals took another step towards the playoffs, crushing bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils for their 7th win.Ajinkya Rahane provided the base with a steady 64, Kevon Cooper and Sanju Samson the impetus in the middle, and James Faulkner the finishing thrive as Royals racked up 201 for 6.
K Cooper had come in at No 10 in his only game of the season before tonight. He was sent in at No 3 to go after the bowling, and he did closely that, swatting 3 sixes in making 32 off 16.Samson lofted and flat-batted Kaul for 2 sixes in the 15th over. Rahane had been going at just over run-a-ball at the other end, but he opened up in the next over as Royals surged to a big finish.
JP Duminy could not keep a cut down off Pravin Tambe, and Rajat Bhatia's leg rollers took care of Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor. Tiwary and Kedar Jadhav were the last bat pair at 58 for 5 in the 10th over but the latter was run out by a direct hit from Cutting to make it 75 for 6.

Manoj Tiwary hung around till the end, but reducing the margin of defeat was of no avail when the campaign had already ended.

IPL 2014 Kings XI Punjab another Big chase Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad

The prospect of facing Kings XI Punjab means extensive research on Maxwell. Possibly a few hours spent decoding David Miller. But the winning push, in Hyderabad, came from 2 men who fly well under the radar.

Wriddhiman Saha, usually charged with steadying a top-order wobble, explode to make 54 off 26 and Manan Vohra, who was inked into the XI for the first time this season, made 47 off 20. Sunrisers Sunriser’s Hyderabad had amassed 205 runs but Punjab came in second best.
The Power play provides a vital chance when chasing a big total. Steyn and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, though, aren't the fastest bowlers to cart around. But that was what happened and the 86 for 1 that Wriddhiman Saha and Manan Vohra drove Kings XI to missed out on the overall IPL record for most runs in the 1st 6 overs by just one run.
Shikhar Dhawan was confident of his top orders's aptitude at the toss. His concerns lay with the middle order and their skill to speed up. Those were laid to rest courtesy a Naman Ojha-inspired bludgeon. A strong bottom hand dominated most of his shots, so much that drives through the cover region seemed shoveled.
He was brutal against the spinners and Sandeep Sharma's medium pace enabled him to drive Sunrisers past the 200-mark. The 26 runs that came in the 19th over meant Sandeep's 1 for 65 became the joint 2nd worst figures in IPL.

IPL Seventh Season Mumbai Indians Successful beat Hyderabad by 7 Wickets

Lendl Simmons and Ambati Rayudu put on 130 runs for the 2nd wicket in 14.3 overs to haul Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians to a forceful win over Sunrisers. The win, Mumbai Indians 3rd in nine matches, kept the defensive champions campaign barely alive.

Sunrisers Hyderabad was tied down after choosing to bat. Warner and Aaron Finch helped his side the total to 157, but it hardly mattered Aaron Finch holed out off Malinga in the penultimate over for 68 off 62 but David Warner stepped up and launched the fast bowler for a few of sixes.

He ended the innings with successive 4 off Kieron Pollard to finish on 55 off 31. Given Sunrisers' reputation of successfully defending reasonable totals at their home ground, 157 did not appear to be an easy chase, but Ambati Rayudu and Lendl Simmons made it.

IPL Seventh Season KKR Easy Beat KXIP by Nine Wickets

IPL 2014 seventh season Gambhir 3rd successive fifty’s anchored Kolkata Knight Riders chase and steered them to a 9-wicket win over this IPL-toppers Kings XI Punjab. The Knight Riders bowlers had pinned Kings XI down to 149 - the second time in the tournament they be kept to less than 150 - despite a swift 72 from Virender Sehwag.
The opening pair of Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir - with 2 century stands in their last few matches - set the platform for the chase, racing to 68 in just 7 overs.
Coming into this game, Kolkata Knight Riders were the most economical team in the death overs in the IPL, giving away just 8.30 runs an over. In the UAE leg, they were also the team that managed to stifle Kings XI Punjab successfully.
That control with the ball, particularly in the latter half of the innings, set up the match for the side. At 10 overs, Kings XI Punjab were 85 for 2, but they made only 64 for 6 in the next 10 overs.

Chawla struck immediately with the big wicket of Glenn Maxwell, and then got rid of Virender Sehwag and Rishi Dhawan in the 15th and 17th overs.
He got to 50 off 35 balls, but like most Virender Sehwag innings, the opposition also had their share of chances. He was dropped in the 2nd over and a few shots fell out of reach of the fielders. Luckily for the Kolkata Knight Riders, those mistakes weren't too costly in the end.

IPL 2014 Sunrises Hyderabad Bowlers Stunning easy Beat Rajasthan Royals

IPL 2014 7th Season Sunrisers Hyderabad power in bowling came to the fore as they protected a low total to end Rajasthan Royals' 4-match winning streak in IPL-7 on Thursday. Restricted to 134/9 after they were sent in to bat - thanks to Shane Watson hat-trick - Sunrisers shot out Rajasthan Royals for 102 in 19.5 overs for a 32-run triumph.
Indian Team Swing bowler Bhuvnenshwar (4/14) claimed the lion's share of wickets, Dale Steyn (2/31) on a run of 4 victories, Royals would have suppressed a snigger at the score they had held back Sunrisers to after sending them in.

The next to go was Aaron Finch (9), caught brilliantly by Ajinkya Rahane running in from deep midwicket. And still Warner remained in the dugout, preceded as he was by Lokesh Rahul (18) and then Ojha (17). When David Warner did come out - following Rahul being bowled by a Rajat Bhatia slower ball he was stumped off a Pravin Tambe googly.
Another Bhatia slower ball dismissal of Ojha meant that Rajasthan Royals support cast had yanked down Sunrisers – from their rapid start – to 86/4 after 12 overs. Watson had cleaned up Dhawan in the 4th over. When he returned for the 17th his 1st 2 balls fetched him the latter 2-3 of a hat-trick – Royals’ second in successive matches after Tambe feat against Kolkata.

IPL 2014 New Record Kings xi Punjab Back Beat Chennai Super Kings

Glenn Maxwell powered the Kings XI Punjab to a comprehensive 44-run win over Indian Premier League (IPL) table toppers Chennai Super Kings at the Barabati Stadium here Wednesday.
Chasing the highest total of the tournament of 231/4, the Super Kings could only control 187/6 in their 20 overs after electing to field. With the win, the Kings XI Punjab outfit has once again risen to the top of the table with 12 points from seven games.

Glenn Maxwell drove his team to a mammoth totality with his wonderful 38-ball knock of 90 runs. The Australian was given good support by South African Player David Miller (47) and later by fellow George Bailey, who also hammer an outrageous 13-ball 40 at an incredible strike rate of 307.69.
Glenn Maxwell and David Miller struck the powerful 135-run 3rd wicket partnership to propel the team to 182 before getting out.

Early the Chennai outfit had a poor start, losing volatile opener Dwayne Smith (4) in the 1st over. Brendon McCollum (33) tried forging a partnership with Suresh Raina (35) first and later with Ravindra Jadeja (17) before running himself out.
Faf du Plessis (52) and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored a 61-run fifth-wicket partnership but the asking rate kept growing and even the firepower of Dhoni, who got out for 21, wasn’t enough to take the 2-time IPL champions to their target. Mithun Manhas (8 not out) and Ravichandran Ashwin (11) took the team to 187/6 before running out overs.
